Canopy Platform
Data Integration & Orchestration
The Challenge:
Engineers across industries waste time and energy on complex, tedious API integrations. This disrupts timelines and leads to unfulfilling work, a problem compounded by mismatched data types and difficulty in troubleshooting issues across multiple chained APIs.
The Approach
- Understanding the Frustration: I interviewed engineers and data architects facing these battles daily. GNC's struggles to launch a subscription service due to integration delays were a telling case study.
- Defining the Problem: The need wasn't just integration, but a streamlined platform offering:
- Intuitive 'drag and drop' orchestration
- Easy connector creation (common services & custom)
- AI-assisted data transformations
- Real-time monitoring and alerting to spot issues fast
The Design Solution
- Utility-Focused Aesthetic: Understanding its wide potential use, I designed a clean predictable interface providing essential information for engineers and non-technical users alike.
- Balancing Constraints with Innovation: Our small team drove strategic choices. Proven UI component libraries (ui.shadcn.com) ensured rapid development while allowing brand customization. A Figma component library mirrored with CSS variables kept the design and development workflows synced.
- Canvas Canopy Builder: The Heart of the Solution Inspired by engineers' own diagramming habits, this tool uses familiar visual language. In order to efficiently implement drag and drop canvas interface, we found a good react library to handle lot of the time consuming front-end development (reactflow.dev). API orchestration becomes as intuitive as drawing an architecture diagram, and the result is a living document.
- Connector Marketplace & Beyond: A 300+ connector catalog lets users quickly find what they need, while options to generate specs-based or fully custom connectors ensure flexibility.
- Natural Language Transformations: Canopy suggests data transformations based on input – a huge time-saver. For granular control, a manual interface (concatenate, merge, etc.) provides familiar actions and JSON highlighting for clear results.
- Data That Engages: Visualizations of compositions were crucial. Chord diagrams, customizable metrics, and colored lines make system overview enjoyable and actionable.
The Impact
- User Success & Validation: Showcasing our platform with the seemingly niche use-case of McDonald's soda machines proved its universality. This resonated powerfully with engineers.
- Business Success: Canopy closed deals with major e-commerce clients and secured funding, exceeding the typical trajectory for a startup with a complex product.

ZonGuru
Amazon Selling & Research
The Challenge:
Amazon sellers need tools that are as efficient and focused as they are, but also provide a sense of reassurance within a potentially stressful space. Existing apps often felt too 'corporate' and lacked a sense of personality.
The Approach
- Understanding the Need: Interviews with diverse sellers and competitor analysis helped define the problem. Data, streamlined interface, and unique safeguards were must-haves, but the app also needed to reflect the potential excitement of finding and selling great products.
- Defining the Problem: The design needed to balance functionality with a unique personality that conveyed reliability without becoming overly serious.
The Design Solution
- Empowering Dashboard: Metrics like revenue potential, ad spend (ACOS/TACOS), inventory, and reviews are presented clearly.
- "Niche" Finder - Playful Validation: This tool uses a "rainbow" score and engaging visuals to make initial niche/product assessment fast and intuitive. Customizable filters let sellers tailor results with reliable data.
- Proactive Alerts: IP Monitor became a key differentiator. Real-time alerts about competitor sabotage give sellers peace of mind and the ability to act quickly to protect their listings.
- Design Direction: Playful & Purposeful I drew inspiration from ZonGuru's brand personality, adding original illustrations for empty states and the onboarding experience. A robot theme, with robots representing key features, provided a sense of helpfulness and fun to the app.
- Intuition & Focus: Clear navigation and UI patterns make the app both efficient to use and visually engaging.
The Impact
- Standing Out: The playful design elements and unique features help ZonGuru resonate with sellers.
- User Satisfaction & Confidence: These tools relieve seller anxieties, providing crucial information, and supporting proactive business decisions.
Medical Records & Scheduling
Scheduling workflow was cluttered with manual processing and overwhelmed users with information, making it difficult to manage surgical requests.

Designed the Captu interface for better usability. Implemented a step-by-step process for adding requests and a clear information hierarchy to reduce errors and improve efficiency.
Captu
Medical Records & Scheduling
The Challenge:
Captu's users were overwhelmed by the existing process, which is cluttered documents and spreadsheets. This led to decreased productivity, errors, and user fatigue when handling sensitive, time-critical medical records.
The Approach
- User-Centered Discovery: In-depth interviews and observation uncovered that users needed better information organization and guidance to manage the workflow effectively.
- Defining the Problem: The core issues were:
- Information overload due to density and lack of hierarchy.
- No curated action lists, forcing users to visually scan for time-sensitive tasks.
- Exhausting "spreadsheet" experience not designed for this specific workflow.
The Design Solution
- Clarity & Intuitive Workflow: I created new information architecture and layouts to address the findings. Wireframes and user flows ensured the design fit existing processes.
- "Step-by-Step" Request Creation: I broke down the lengthy request forms into logical steps. This streamlined the process, reducing cognitive load and potential for errors.
- Prioritized Task Lists: Curated lists now surfaced urgent requests, improving efficiency and accuracy and reducing user stress.
- Design for Efficiency: Development considerations were baked in. I focused on re-usable layouts and responsive design techniques to ensure fast implementation.
The Impact
- Reduced Errors: The step-by-step approach demonstrably minimized mistakes in crucial request data.
- User Satisfaction: Feedback indicated a transformed experience – less overwhelming and more guided – leading to improved productivity.
- Requests in record time: With the new step by step layout, users were average 4 times faster when creating new records.
- Scalable Design: Efficient layout strategies ensured the improved UX could be delivered within project constraints.
Learnings
- The Power of Simplicity: Sometimes, the most important design 'feature' is guiding the user and breaking down complex tasks.
- Balancing User Needs & Constraints: Demonstrate adaptability by highlighting how you made smart UX choices mindful of development resources.
